CDC Mobile Water Supply Practice Test

The term "gravity dumps" refers specifically to the method of discharging water by relying on gravitational force rather than mechanical pumps. This process involves utilizing the natural downward slope or elevation of water in tanks or containers, allowing it to flow freely and exit from a higher point to a lower point. This technique is particularly advantageous in emergencies, such as fire suppression, because it enables quick and efficient access to water without the need for complex pumping systems or additional power sources.

Utilizing gravity for water discharge is essential in various scenarios, especially when rapid deployment is necessary, and it helps conserve energy while still effectively supplying water. The other options, while relating to water supply, do not accurately capture the essence of gravity dumps as they focus on different systems or methods of operation.
